Don’t Spark a Fire this Fourth of July!

Fireworks are illegal in certain areas of California because each year serious injuries and millions of dollars in property loss occur from wildfires sparked by fireworks. Large grass crops and dry vegetation increase the threat for devastating fires throughout all of California.

Remember fireworks spark fires.

Only “Safe and Sane” fireworks are permitted and must bear the seal below. Any firework not bearing that seal is not permitted.

What Are Considered Fireworks in California?

Under California law, "fireworks" include any device that:

contains chemical elements that don't require oxygen to burn (normal combustible items require oxygen), and
produces audible, visual, mechanical, or thermal pyrotechnic effects for entertainment.

Skyrockets, roman candles, rockets, sparklers, party poppers, paper caps, fountains, and smoke bombs are listed in the law as examples of fireworks.
